Thesis Topic Getting Closer

So after a meeting with the OPA, my topic is getting closer to being finalized. It will focus on implementing PSG (pumped hydroelectric storage and generation) in Ontario over the next 5 year. This timeframe is to coincide with the retirement of many coal plants in Ontario.

More to come.....hopefully my next post will be on my topic.

Meeting Notes:

Ontario: Not a lot in the system. Coal and nuclear coming offline by 2014. Supply needs to be filled in.

-Green Energy Act

-FIT program: Make renewable generation projects more feasible. Summer time frame.  Provide better economics for projects.

-Nuclear may be kept going due to gov’t agenda. Refurb or offline. Decision not made yet. Scenario planning being done to figure this out.

-PSG points is how much and when? Lifecycle. Pump vs. spill.

-Coal is the focus. Once that is offline, can pgs be used.

-Couple problems: Coal coming offline (Ks of MW).

-Load profiling: Eocnomics, green nomics

-Wind, accounting for variables.

-Variables in FIT programs. More research needed. How much power and when will it be coming online.
